Includes alloys such as 6061, 6063, 6101, and 6082. The 6XXX series are heat-treatable alloys with good formability, weldability, machinability, and moderate strength, maintaining good workability even after annealing. The main alloying elements are magnesium and silicon (AlMgSi), forming the Mg2Si phase. The presence of manganese and chromium can neutralize the detrimental effects of iron; sometimes small amounts of copper or zinc are added to improve the alloy's strength without significantly reducing its corrosion resistance. Conductive materials also contain small amounts of copper to offset the adverse effects of titanium and iron on conductivity; zirconium or titanium can refine the grain and control recrystallization; lead and bismuth can be added to improve machinability. The Mg2Si is dissolved in aluminum, giving the alloy an artificial age-hardening property. 6061-T6 is a major alloy in the 6XXX series. It is a high-quality aluminum alloy product produced by heat treatment and pre-stretching process. Although its strength cannot be compared with the 2XXX or 7XXX series, it has many magnesium and silicon alloy characteristics, and has excellent processing performance, excellent welding characteristics and electroplating properties, good corrosion resistance, high toughness and no deformation after processing, dense and defect-free material, easy polishing, easy coloring film, and excellent oxidation effect.
