Includes 2A12 and 2024. The 2 series is a typical hard aluminum alloy in the aluminum-copper-magnesium system, with a relatively reasonable composition and good overall performance. This alloy is produced in many countries and is the most widely used hard aluminum alloy. Its characteristics include: high strength, certain heat resistance, and suitability for working parts below 150°C. Above 125°C, the strength of the 2 series alloy is higher than that of alloy 7075. It has good formability in the hot, annealed, and freshly quenched states, and heat treatment significantly strengthens it, although the heat treatment process requires strict control. It has poor corrosion resistance, but can be effectively protected by cladding with pure aluminum. It is prone to cracking during welding, but can be welded or riveted using special processes. It is widely used in aircraft structures, rivets, truck wheel hubs, propeller components, and various other structural parts.
